National Charity League, Inc. is a non-profit national organization of mothers and daughters who join together in community involvement within local chapters. Its goal is to foster a sense of community responsibility as well as to foster mother/daughter relationships through cultural, charitable and educational endeavors. NCL has been serving communities and bringing mothers and daughters closer together for over 50 years! National HistoryIn 1925, a small group of women formed The Charity League in Los Angeles to support Children’s Hospital. They worked quietly, doing Red Cross work, making layettes and assembling and delivering baskets of food to the hungry. Sometimes they brought their daughters with them. By 1938, so many daughters had become involved that they decided to form their own group. They called themselves Ticktockers. In 1946; they reorganized and became National Charity League. Today NCL has approximately one hundred twenty six Chapters through out the United States. They are served by a National Board of Directors and divided into five Regions. Through the joint volunteer efforts of our mother/daughter teams today, we hope to make the world a better place tomorrow. Chapter History and OrganizationOur Evergreen Chapter was founded in 1990 by Leslie Rosen. The first year there were only three classes; grades 7, 8, 9. Our first Senior Celebration was in 1994. Today we are organized into grade levels starting in 7th grade and progressing to the 12th grade. Our classes range from 20 to 25 Patronesses and Ticktockers. Each Chapter has a Board of Directors plus appointed positions in order to carry out Chapter business. Evergreen NCL, Inc. is incorporated with a 501(c) 3 status. All Patronesses and Ticktockers are required to fulfill a certain amount of community service and encouraged to hold several leadership positions throughout their six year program. Nationally and locally Patronesses and Ticktockers are offered a variety of leadership skills such as comprehensive event planning, meeting organization, time management and social and business etiquette. Our Chapter serves a wide variety of local philanthropic organizations which include Swedish Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, Tree House, Cinderella’s Trunk, The Humane Society, Hammond House and MEOW, just to name a few. How to Become a MemberNational Charity League, Inc. is a sponsorship organization. This means that in order to receive membership in this organization, you need to be sponsored by an active current member. Mothers with daughters entering the 7th grade through the 10th grade are eligible for membership. Once you have obtained a sponsor, paperwork is filled out and your membership obligations are discussed with you. This process begins in the fall prior to the year you enter. The membership committee, represented by all grade levels, then meets and literally pulls the names out of a hat until each grade level is full. Class size is limited. If there are more candidates than spaces available, a wait list is maintained until September of the program year. |
