National Charity League-Evergreen Chapter
Mercer Island, Washington
The Evergreen Chapter of National Charity League has been serving our community since 1990. The chapter was started by Leslie Rosen, and that first year, there were only three classes--grades 7, 8, and 9. Today we have 265 active members serving 23 local, philanthropic organizations.
NCL classes are organized into grade levels starting in 7th grade and progressing to the 12th grade with classes ranging from 20 to 25 girls, plus their mothers. All mothers and daughters are required to take an active role in the chapter--fulfilling a certain amount of community service and holding several leadership positions throughout their six year program.
Nationally and locally both mothers and daughters are offered a variety of leadership skills such as comprehensive event planning, meeting organization, time management and social and business etiquette. Each Chapter has a Board of Directors plus appointed positions in order to carry out Chapter business. Evergreen NCL, Inc. is incorporated with a 501(c)(3) status.
Becoming a Member

Each year we have a membership drive to assemble our incoming 7th grade class and fill out any vacancies in our 8th, 9th and 10th grade classes. We hold an informational session in the fall where potential members can learn about the organization, and those interested then apply and are sponsored by an active current member of the chapter.
The membership committee, represented by all grade levels, then meets and literally pulls the names out of a hat until each grade level is full. Class size is limited. If there are more candidates than spaces available, a wait list is maintained until September of the program year.
